Slinger the Spider’s Very Own Series!!

The Adventure Continues…

Slinger finally gets his own series!!

The timing of this new series is very special. Slinger traveled with Skeleton Steve, Elias, and sometimes Zebulon the Zombie Knight during seasons ONE and TWO of Skeleton Steve the Noob Years. After Season Two, Skeleton Steve was separated from his friends because of (spoilers!!). After Noob Years Season Two, Elias the Endeerman Ninja moved on to the Doomstreak Clan series.

This Slinger series starts directly after the end of Elias’s Doomstreak series and approximately during the course of Noob Years Season SIX. Therefore, to have the full backstory, you might want to read the two Elias series, Noob Years (at least) Seasons 1 and 2, and maybe the Creeper King series. Everything is coming together!

Chapter 1 – Boredom and Bacon

I found an empty book!

Well, it’s not empty now, is it?

I’m … I dunno … how do I do this??

Okay, well that was a flubbed start! Ha ha.

There are new pigs! Huge, meaty pigs with big tusks and I almost got myself killed hunting one and … um …

So, I was in the Nether the other day, and…

Holy smokes. This writing thing is hard.

Let me start over.

My name is Slinger.

I’m a spider … and a ninja!

Well, I’m sort of a ninja. I’d love to be a ninja though. Ever since I heard the story some time ago about my awesome friend Elias the Enderman ninja saving that village from the evil Skeleton King, I knew that my destiny was to become the first spider ninja!

Um … I’m rambling again, aren’t I?

Hey … I wonder if I can write with my webs…?

Guess not.

Maybe I can … draw something…

Hmm. Not bad, right??

Um … what in Diamodia am I doing? This is supposed to be a diary! It’s supposed to be about Boredom and Bacon!

Okay, I’ll try harder to keep focused.

Holy smokes—writing is hard! How does Skeleton Steve do this so much??

Alright.

Focus.

Earlier, I was in the Nether, and…

How do I start this? Okay, maybe if I try to write as if I’m telling it as it happened…

The Nether.

Yeah.

You know that huge smelly dark place full of fire and food?

Sometimes I go there. Um … for fun. I know—doesn’t make that much sense, right? But … well … I’ve been really, really, really bored.

Bored for a long time now.

Sad.

Bored and sad.

Focus!

Okay, so several days ago—many days ago (it’s hard to tell how long it’s been)—my best friend and master, Skeleton Steve was killed. He was killed by the Steve, smashed to bony pieces just inside the entrance to his tower by the immortal guardian’s sword.

I didn’t know what to do.

Skeleton Steve was my best friend (I know, I already said that) and my master. I’d carried him through battle and across long, dangerous journeys, and now … crunch.

After chasing off the Steve into the woods—holy smokes he was fast—I went back and helped Sir Zebulon … um … pick up the pieces, but…

My friend was gone forever.

Or so I thought!

For many days, I did nothing. I collected all of Skeleton Steve’s things into that Minecraftian box-thing that was on the floor next to where he died, and I sat around the tower trying not to think about being alone again.

Well, I wasn’t totally alone. Sir Zebulon the zombie knight still came by—and he still does—from time to time. He lives in Zombietown, a day’s journey to the south. But first, after all of those evil Endermen attacked us, Elias the super-awesome ninja had to leave to go back to his ninja temple or whatever, and then Skeleton Steve was killed.

So, I spent a lot of time alone, sitting around the tower, or up on the roof where I liked to hang out in the sun. When I was hungry, I hunted and ate. When I was tired, I slept.

But I didn’t know what to do, or what was coming.

Sir Zebulon would come by every few days and hang out with me, usually all day, telling jokes, race with me (I always won), and talking to me about … well, mostly Skeleton Steve.

Eventually, I started going down into the tower’s basement and exploring more of that loooong staircase leading down to the mine and the Nether portal. I searched the surrounding caves here and there, looking for anything interesting, but … I guess I was sort of depressed.

After wandering the mines and caves and coming back to that moaning purple portal time and time again, I started sitting there in front of the weird magic … remembering.

There was that time Skeleton Steve, Elias, and I went through that portal to see what was on the other side, and we ended up running for our lives from a bazillion angry zombie pigmen!

Those were good times.

After staring at the portal for maybe the hundredth time, I started stepping through to wander around on the other side, in that other world…

That’s what happened earlier today, but I’m getting ahead of myself.

See, there’s one really important detail that I forgot to mention:

This one time, weeks ago now, Sir Zebulon disappeared for days.

I had no idea where he’d gone. A few days passed since the last time I’d seen him, and as I waited on the tower roof to see his little green and blue form climbing the mountain in the distance … I waited … and waited … and he never came.

Until one day.

After he’d been gone for over a week, Sir Zebulon suddenly showed up … from the basement! At the time, I’d been sprawled out on the stone floor next to where Skeleton Steve had died. I had the door propped open and was watching animals run by outside with my belly on the cool cobblestone floor, playing with my webs, when the little zombie knight suddenly appeared from below, riding a chicken with a fancy gleaming sword covered in freaking fire in his hand!

My little zombie friend had seemed confused at the time, running into me at the top of the stairs, but was relieved when he realized where he was.

See, he’d been lost.

Turned out Sir Zebulon had ended up in the Nether after a long journey, and came back to the Overworld through the portal under Skeleton Steve’s tower! And what a story he had, holy smokes!

Apparently, Sir Zebulon had gone on his own adventure, all by himself, all following a hunch that he needed to head West. It was, indeed, a huge story! A ‘tale and a half’, as he put it, about finding his chicken battle steed, Cluckington, and then … finding Skeleton Steve!

I know, right?!

Turns out Skeleton Steve was still alive!

I have no idea how it had happened, but my best friend who I’d seen killed right there—right there in front of that door right there—was alive again, but far away!

I’d never felt more relief in my entire life.

But I’m running away with my thoughts again, aren’t I? I’ve got to get back to Boredom and Bacon. Dang, I’m not keeping this new diary very organized!

Long story short, Skeleton Steve was alive. He was far to the west, and stayed there to help out some poor zombie kid get back to his old life or something before he’d be coming home, but he was coming home!

What a happy day that was! After listening to Sir Zebulon’s long and crazy story, I helped him find a blank book in Skeleton Steve’s bookcase upstairs. Zebulon wanted to write his whole story down, which was what inspired me to start this diary of my own. Then I spent the rest of the day racing against Sir Zebulon and Cluckington in the fields out front. Man—he was waaaay faster now on that chicken. They even won a few races against me, but … only because I got dirt in my eyes. I swear!

So that brings me back to now.

Going forward from that day, I felt loads better, so … I waited.

Back to waiting.

Now, instead of waiting for nothing because Skeleton Steve was dead, I was waiting for him to return home!

But … it was still a wait.

And … interesting things have been happening…

This morning, I saw something totally new in the Nether.

The Nether is a weird place. The ground, walls, cliffs, and ceilings are all made of meat, but it’s not meat that I can eat. So strange. Holy smokes, I would have loved to find a world where I could eat as much as I ever wanted because the entire place was made of meat! But nooooo. This ‘netherrack’ as Skeleton Steve had called it was oily and greasy and seemed tasty, but it didn’t act like normal meat when I sink my fangs into it. I can’t consume it. It’s acidic and hard and weird and actually hurts my fangs a little when I try.

So usually, when I go the Nether and I’m hungry, I stalk the zombie pigmen. Three times now, all alone, I’ve hunted down a single pigman off on his own, totally separated from his group, and…

I know what you’re thinking. You attack one, and they all freak out and attack you, right? That’s what happened to us the first time, back I tried to eat one of them with Skeleton Steve and Elias. What a mess that was, right?!

Well, I’ve learned. And I’ve been being really careful. I swear it! Do you think I want to get chopped up into a million pieces by those freaky zombie pigmen and their golden swords?

Heck no!

Three different times now, I’ve stalked my prey—like a proper ninja—and taken them down in quiet corners of the Nether.

But today was different.

As I climbed along a greasy netherrack cliff, watching the groups of zombie pigmen as my stomach growled, looking for a nice snack, I saw new creatures that I had never seen before…

There was a group of pigmen off on their own, a colony of them on an isolated plateau of netherrack above a sea of glowing magma, and they were … different.

Instead of wandering around aimlessly like the zombie pigmen did, waving shoddy golden swords around, these new pig people moved with a purpose. They talked to each other and worked together, tending to crop-stuff that I didn’t understand.

Sneaking close enough to get a better view, I couldn’t make out much of their snorty words, but I did hear “Piglin”.

Is that what these things were called? Piglins?

Well, I decided to call them piglins from then on, because they were definitely not zombie pigmen. In fact, it quickly became obvious that these piglins were what zombie pigmen were before they became, well, zombies. Where the zombie ones were pink and green with bits of bones and skull showing through their wounds—I always ate around those nasty parts—these creatures were smooth-skinned, more tan than pink, and … they were alive! Where the zombie ones carried run-down and half-broken golden swords, these piglins had shiny, well-maintained golden swords. Some of them carried a new type of weapon that I’d never seen before; some kind of bow like Skeleton Steve’s, but with a lot more wooden pieces attached to it.

Strange.

And enticing!

Even from the shadows, far away, I could smell that yummy pork smell that had always drawn me to the zombie ones. But these … these piglins … were full of life, and robust, and plump and muscled…

They looked so tasty…

So I hunted.

For a while, I waited and watched the piglins for one of them to become separated from the big group. That didn’t happen. Well, not as ideally as I would have liked.

I found some guards with those strange bow-things at the edges of the group. As I stalked my way closer and closer to one of them, I watched as the creature I hunted stared across the nether with lively white eyes, occasionally pausing to snort and fidget with one of its tusks. It scratched behind one tasty-looking flappy ear.

Definitely not a zombie.

And then I saw my opportunity.

I heard laughing and higher-pitched snorting, and saw a trio of little piglins—children—run out beyond the boundaries of their group toward a cliff that overlooked the magma ocean.

As soon as I saw the three of them rush off onto the shadowy cliff, a dangerous distance away from the others, I felt my fangs clicking in anticipation of young, succulent meat. They would be so tender, their juices so yummy…

With that, I abandoned the path I was sneaking along toward the guard and rushed off to the far cliff toward the young ones, scrabbling over the cliffside and rushing along the edge over the lava to get there quickly without being seen.

As soon as I was close enough to start a new stalking approach, sliding over the edge of the cliff in the shadows—close enough to throw web balls at the piglin children as they ran in circles chasing each other—one of the adults suddenly rushed over, shouting at them to get back because it ‘wasn’t safe‘ or some nonsense.

Ha.

Two of the piglin children immediately skipped back to the big group. The third lingered, poking at a patch of fire on the netherrack with something in its hand like a stick.

Excellent!

Clicking my fangs in excitement—I can’t help it; sometimes they have a mind of their own—I started slinking my way toward my young, succulent quarry…

The adult piglin walked over to urgently grab the child.

I paused.

After the adult snorted a bunch of angry nonsense, the child turned and ran back to the group, crushing my excitement over tasting a tender youth of this new food.

But then, to my surprise, the adult stayed, also lingering, with one piggy hand on the hilt of its sword, staring out into the nether wasteland over the magma sea…

Alright. So, an adult then

My stomach growled.

Looking at the creature’s fleshy arms and legs, its plump but muscular body under its leather-like clothing, I anticipated sinking my fangs into its flesh. What would the new taste be like? Would it be like an actual pig from the Overworld? Holy smokes, did I love to eat pigs! I just hardly ever saw them in the mountains around Skeleton Steve’s tower…

The adult piglin put its hammy fists on its hips, sighed, snorted, and looked out over the magma sea…

I tensed my legs, preparing to strike. I would start with a well-shot web ball, hitting it in the face to keep it from calling out, then another to secure its feet to the ground. Then I would rush in with my fangs and—

There was a long, deep meaty snort and grunt from nearby.

It sounded like something big…

I paused, looking back to the group, and saw the most delicious looking animal I’d ever seen…

It was a giant pig.

These piglins kept giant pigs. In the dim light and flickering fire, I could make out four of the massive creatures, and I saw one … off on its own, far from the big group and in the shadows of a netherrack slope rising up to make a wall.

Perfect!

The giant pig wasn’t exactly a plump, pink piggy like from the Overworld. It was huge, and brutish, with massive tusks and bristly hair on its back. But it was definitely pork. Big, thick pork. Full of flavor and lots of meat!

I looked back at the piglin that I was about to pounce on, then over at the giant isolated pig…

Not much of a choice, really.

Yep.

Slinking back into the shadows, I abandoned my previous quarry and rushed through the dark areas around the camp to be close to my new prey.

My fangs clicked in excitement.

This would be such a big, satisfying meal!

As soon as I was close enough, I realized how truly massive this pig was. It was far larger than me, but that wasn’t a big deal, was it? I kill and eat large animals regularly. This was no different. I could handle it! After all, it wasn’t much bigger than … well … what was this big? A cow, maybe? I’d killed a few cows. Well, it was bigger than a cow. But surely I’d hunted and killed prey this big before!

It wasn’t bigger than a horse.

Lining myself up for a good pounce, I tensed up, prepared a web ball…

I flung the web ball, hitting the beast square in the snout.

Yes!

It reacted slowly, looking up as if wondering why that mass of sticky stuff was suddenly all over its mouth and nose. When it did, it saw me!

I pounced, springing through the air, leading with my front legs to catch it.

Again, as I approached, flying through the darkness, I was amazed at how big this thing was!

Yeah. It was bigger than a horse.

Landing on the huge pig’s back, I immediately secured a good hold with all eight legs and sank my fangs into its muscled flesh. Its meaty juices filled my mouth…

So good!

I was gonna eat good today!

Then the beast squealed in anger and surprise. The sounds were muffled by my webs, all according to plan. A few more stabs of my fangs and—

Suddenly the big hog bucked and jerked around with such great strength that all I could do was hang on for dear life! It squealed and stampeded around furiously, quickly breaking open my webbing and making a huge ruckus! It was so strong!

Holy smokes!

Two of my legs slipped off and I felt my backside fly up and bounce back down again on the hog’s back.

I tightened my grip even tighter, wrapping all eight of my legs around the beast’s bucking body as it trampled all around the netherrack, jumping and throwing and squealing loudly and thrashing around trying to get me with its big tusks.

There was one crash after another as the huge pig plowed through the piglin’s camp, throwing their stuff all over, smushing mushrooms, shattering bits of shiny white crystals sticking out of the meaty ground. Piglins all over ran for their lives, dodging and diving out of the way as the beast rampaged through the area with me desperately hanging on…

So strong! So full of muscles! The juices tasted so good; the meat had to be amazing! I had to get a hold of this monstrous pig and get it away from the—

Twang.

A crossbow bolt whistled past me.

Looking back, I saw several angry pigmen rushing after me, one of them still aiming at me with his strange weapon. Two more took aim, snorting and shouting…

Holy smokes!

As the huge boar bucked and tore through the camp, I slid my whole body over the ridge of its spine to the other side to avoid the piglins’ weapons. The beast heaved and threw and stampeded under me. With my face close to its meaty shoulder, I could smell its deliciousness; I was so hungry!

I took another bite, sinking my fangs into the pig’s flexing shoulder as it charged on, barely able to hold on…

So good! So, so good!

It squealed in pain and frenzied anger, changing direction, and took off toward the piglins again, nearly bucking me off. I lost my grip with three legs, frantically slid up again to the top of its back, and grabbed on for dear life!

Up ahead of us, piglins aiming their crossbows glared then opened their eyes wide, changing from anger to surprise. They all dove sideways—two of them outright dropping their crossbows—as the huge boar with me on its back plunged through their numbers again, smashing the netherrack with its hooves and squealing loudly and furiously the whole way.

Then, we were past the camp, thundering off into the shadows and patches of fire.

Yes!

If we left the piglins behind, I actually had a chance to take this beast down!

“Gonna eat well today!” I shouted to no one as I bounced up and down on the raging boar.

Then, as I held on desperately with all eight legs, out of the darkness ahead of us, I saw the glint of gold and the pale colors of pink and bone.

An instant later, the boar smashed into a group of zombie pigmen. I heard the angry grunts and roars that I knew so well, and saw several of them flying past me, hurt and angry and confused. One shoddy golden sword flew through the air, almost hitting me.

The huge pig stopped, squealing and bucking up and down. I held on, grabbing it again every time one of my legs slipped loose. Then it turned around to face the distant lava ocean again.

There was a horde of angry zombie pigmen rushing toward us with murder in their eyes…
