There are bad days, and then there are “your zombie knight wants to fight a witch while a cat tries to eat you” kind of days. This book? Definitely the latter. When I wrote Battle Steed Book 2, I thought I’d seen every weird combo the Overworld could throw at me—but nothing quite beats a terrified chicken trying to act heroic while a witch cackles and a hungry feline stalks you like a furry enderman.
What I love most about this story is how much Cluckington grows. She starts the adventure just hoping not to get stepped on (or eaten), but by the end? She’s charging through swamps and dodging potions like a true champion. It’s easy to forget how brave even the smallest mob can be until you see one face down a witch. Maybe courage doesn’t come from size—it comes from sticking by your knight no matter how weird things get.
Of course, I couldn’t resist adding a few chaotic touches. Stinky zombies and one particularly rude “kitty cat” that refuses to play nice—what could possibly go wrong? (Spoiler: everything.) But that’s the fun of writing these diaries—every disaster turns into another tale of survival, laughter, and feathers.
