This story was a blast to write (no pun intended). I wanted to dig into the darker side of Cth’ka’s rise to power—the part where being “the good creeper” starts to get complicated. The scenes in the icy biome were some of my favorites to imagine: frozen waterfalls, snow swirling through the trees, and a witch whose cold heart makes the Nether look cozy. Add Skeleton Steve’s dry humor, Zarek’s undead loyalty, and a whole mob of creepers that somehow manage not to blow up, and you’ve got one seriously epic mix of tension and teamwork.
I’ve had a ton of readers tell me this was their favorite book in the Minecraft diary series so far, and I can see why—it’s where Cth’ka truly starts to question what kind of king he wants to be.
